On October 28 2023, St Philip's joined the Dunbar Village Improvement Association's Trick or Treat in Dunbar celebration for young tricksters and their families. A couple of well-placed lawn signs at 27th & Dunbar signalled "Come to the Church", and Debbie Matheson called out to the passing hundreds of families that there was candy to be had at St Philip's. The novelty of going to a church for candy was irresistible to many of the kids and a fun idea for the parents.
Thanks to the DVIA for the event posters and a large stash of candy. Daphne still had to sprint to Stong's for more.
At the church Micaela, Daphne and Catriona provided a warm welcome to the 518 people who dropped into the sanctuary for treats, a chat, and some warmth on that sunny fall day. Debbie checked in with many families as they came back to the high street. They were happy to have visited, and many remarked how pretty the church was.
"The witches were really nice!"
Yes, you read that correctly. 518 people dropped by.
