On Saturday March 11, St Philip's hosted "A Good Book!" when readers lined up before the sale opened to have first dibs on the wide array of books laid out in our gym. From cartons and cartons of random donated books, volunteers over 67 shifts managed to sort, price, display, and create order out of formless chaos. They are the heroes who make it possible.
Surely it was by divine intervention that the Jane Austen Society was meeting in the Fireside Room on that very day? Our sales benefitted from a nearby pool of voracious readers who enjoyed our bargains and staggered home with full shopping bags. Next time, we'll coincide on the calendar by design...
And our neighbours? They loyally support all our various sales and stop to chat with friends as the community gathers to enjoy the donated largesse, and each other's company. Such is a church in a 21st century neighbourhood: the village green where all may gather.
Enjoy the photos, and keep your antennae up for another book sale in the fall of 2023.
Thank you for shopping at St Philip's!
